Securing your position: Update

In late November we introduced Trade Holds, a feature that protects your in-game items if you are unable to secure your account with the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator.

We’ve had some time to gather data, and on March 9th we’re making a few more changes to account security, market transactions, and account restoration. For details on the changes and the reasoning behind them, click here.

Here’s a summary of what’s going to change on March 9th. Note that if you’re already protected by the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator, the first two points below won’t impact you:

— Trade hold duration will be increased to 15 days (for long-time Steam friends the duration will remain 1 day)

— Listing on the Steam Community Market will have a hold of 15 days before an item can be sold

— Steam Support will no longer restore items that have left accounts following a successful trade or market transaction (a process that previously created duplicates of original items)

For those of you who haven’t added the mobile authenticator yet, make sure to activate the feature today! In addition to securing your account, adding the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator will ensure that you’re ready to continue trading and marketing items when the changes take place next week.

CS:GO x Betabrand – Crowdfunding

Way back in October we announced the CS:GO x Betabrand Think Tank, with an early look at some CS:GO clothing concepts.

You gave your feedback and voted on your favorites, and Betabrand has been working on turning those concepts into real merch. The first four designs are ready for the crowdfunding stage, where you can look at the actual product and decide whether it enters full production. We’ll keep you posted when new designs enter this stage.

It’s up to you, so head over to the Betabrand site and take a look. If you’d like to fund an item, act soon – the earliest supporters will receive a discount.

MLG Columbus 2016 – Qualifier

The offline qualifier for the next CS:GO Major is underway, with MLG hosting matches throughout the day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

You can catch all of the action on MLG’s CS:GO channel and on Twitch.

Who will challenge the Legends at MLG Columbus 2016? Tune in throughout the weekend to find out!

Major Growth

When we announced the first CS:GO Major Championship in 2013, we hoped the Majors would be rallying points for the community, tent-pole events that could draw new audiences and amplify the value of all events.

Since then, the professional CS:GO community has been growing at an incredible rate. CS:GO tournaments are now among the largest esports events in the world, drawing global audiences of millions of viewers, filling massive venues, and garnering higher prize pools. Professional CS:GO has grown, and the CS:GO Major Championships are about to grow with it.

We’re pleased to announce that beginning with MLG Columbus 2016, each CS:GO Major Championship prize pool will be $1,000,000.

We look forward to another great year of CS:GO competition.
