9/14 Update

Today’s update includes a range of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, including the addition of third-person flinching (full release notes here). We’ve also started working on a revamped Elo-driven 5v5 matchmaking system, so stay tuned for more details and keep the feedback coming.

More news! Today brings the launch of some brand new CS:GO merchandise at the Valve store. Keep cool with a CS:GO wrist band, or dominate the next LAN event with a SAT-COM bag or military-inspired wallet. Both the SAT-COM bag and the wallet can be customized – they come with a set of patches (additional patches can be found here), or you can add your own.

Spectator UI

The PAX CS:GO Community Event and ESWC NA Qualifiers are rapidly approaching, and today’s update includes some features designed to enhance the spectator experience.

Thanks to helpful feedback both from community members on the Steam forums and from pro players like Volcano, we’ve adjusted the observer and spectator UI, which now include:

  • A UI showing both team’s active weapon, player name, health, armor, etc, when spectating a 10 player match.
  • X-ray vision so dead observers can see their own teammates through walls.
  • A new convar “sv_competitive_official_5v5” that allows connected spectators to see both teams in x-ray, and forces a match to display 5v5 scoreboards regardless of maxplayers setting (Allows setting maxplayers to 12 to allow spectators into a 5v5 match).

CS:GO Community Event @ PAX

Are you going to PAX Prime this weekend?  We’ve partnered up with Intel’s LANFest to throw a Counter Strike: Global Offensive release event with the community on Saturday 9/1 in the FreePC area located in the WSCC Annex.

We will be running a casual CS:GO tournament and will also have CS:GO developers from Valve and Hidden Path onsite playing matches with the community.

Tournament Information:

Signups for the CS:GO tournament will begin Saturday morning at 10am in the FreePC area in the WSCC Annex. Participating teams will then check in at 2pm and the tournament will begin at 3pm.

The tournament format will be a 32 team 5v5 single elimination. Tournament winners will receive amazing prizes provided by Valve and Steel Series.

CS:GO Developer vs Community Matches:

We will also have CS:GO developers from Valve and Hidden Path playing matches with the community. There will be two sessions; the first session will be with the Hidden Path Devs at 1:00pm and the second will be with Valve Devs at 5:00pm.

Signups for these matches will begin Saturday morning at 10am in the FreePC area in the WSCC Annex.

Free Stuff!

We will have custom PAX 2012 CS:GO Merchandise for everyone that visits the FreePC area during the event, and following the matches CS:GO devs will be signing merchandise for the community.

If you’re going to PAX, make sure you visit Valve at the Intel LanFest and take part in this event.

Go! Go! Go!

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launches today.

Today marks an important milestone in the development of CS:GO. With the launch of the game, our work can continue with feedback from the entire Counter-Strike community.  Since CS:GO is still evolving, make sure to give us your thoughts and feedback.

Beta testers helped guide the development of CS:GO, but it might not be obvious how extensively they tested the game.  As the chart below demonstrates, they really put CS:GO through its paces. We’re grateful to all of you who spent countless hours covering every square inch of every map, testing recoil, tweaking movement, and considering the strategic impact of updates to the game.

In addition to testing the core gameplay of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the Counter-Strike community has spent the past months independently establishing competitive leagues and additional content for the new game.

The Zombie mod is just one of the popular mods in development for CS:GO, and as we work toward the release of the Map Workshop, map makers will be able to quickly share their ideas with the community.

If you are new to CS:GO, make sure to join one of the many leagues or competitive tournaments popping up, such as Go4CSGO.  If you are starting a league or tournament, let us know so we can spread the word.   The pro-teams are already geared up for both the upcoming ESWC qualifiers and at DreamHack with more to come.

Ready to join in the action? There’s a whole community waiting for you right here.
